Lessons from the Heart
In the same way we can experience contentment and peace from God as we trust in Him. We trust our salvation through Him. We trust that we can have a relationship with God while on earth. And it is this relationship that we trust will continue on into heaven! God can give you great peace and contentment as you trust in Him. He is your portion, your lone inheritance, just as He was for David and his tribe. You can find peace and contentment as you trust in God However, it is common for our peace and contentment to be challenged at times. Just under two years ago, my wife and I started the process of switching or changing ministry positions. I felt that God wanted me to resign my pastoral position at Frankfort, knowing that I would have to trust Him through the process of looking for a new ministry position. (In the Wesleyan Church, each pastor has to find his own ministry position at another church.) Well, only a week after resigning, my district superintendent helped me find a interview at a church in Anderson. The position looked good and the church invited me back to preach and to vote on whether to take me as their pastor. The preaching and visit went well from our side and we awaited a good report from the church, and I thought, "this was an easy change God!" However, we were shocked (and even hurt) when the church's vote was split and we were not invited to be their pastor. Then started three long months of searching for ministry positions and only getting two preliminary phone interviews. Into our fourth month of searching, I felt led to expand my search to churches outside of the Wesleyan denomination (where I had been all of my life). Only then did the phone start to ring again, and God led us to this great ministry in leading youth here in Delphi. This whole process challenged our peace and contentment to the max! Yet, it has allowed us to experience even greater peace and contentment than we have had before. No matter what you might be going through, remember that God is good as you trust in Him with all of your life! Micah Hudson is youth pastor at Delphi United Methodist Church. |
