Burton breaks 200 freestyle record

The DCHS swim teams defeated Clinton Central with the girls winning 100-80 and the boys, 107-65.

The girls used their team depth, winning 3 of 12 events. Double winner Mara Burton took the 200 freestyle and anchored the 400 freestyle relay while Haley Richardson won diving. The boys were led by quadruple winner Kyle Price and Andrew Burton, double winners Matt Keen, Andy Flora, Jeremy Sterrett and Jared Kelley. Andrew Hall and Alex Price had one win each.

A. Burton, a sophomore, broke the 200 freestyle school record with a time of 1:50.86, knocking 1.24 seconds off of Kevin Stevens' time set in 1984. Burton now holds school records in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyles and is a member of the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays records.

The teams split with Benton Central. The boys won 97-62 while the girls lost 100-83. M. Burton won the 200 freestyle and Chelsey Marcotte won diving. The boys picked up 9 first places, led by triple winners Price and A. Burton, double winners Keen, Flora, Sterrett and Brent Kremer. Kremer had the race of the meet, coming form behind to win the 500 freestyle with a personal best time of 5:50.22.

Carroll hosts 'B' tournament

Carroll Elementary School hosted a sixth grade B-team basketball tournament Saturday.

In the morning session, Carroll White defeated Carroll Blue 25-24 in overtime. Tri-Central defeated Clinton Central 36-15. In the consolation game, Clinton Central defeated Carroll Blue 29-25 and Tri Central claimed the tournament championship after defeating Carroll White 29- 15.

Carroll White team included: Logan Jackson, Zach Turnpaugh, Justin Willoughby, Jim Eller, Branton Leazenby, Michael Strawcutter, Clinton Johns, Alex Plank, Chelton McCarty, and Alex Hickner. Team coach is Don Shively.

Carroll Blue team, coached by John Conn, included: Brock Giddens, Sean Mylet, Cameron Conn, Nigel Thieke, Darrion Wagoner, Bradley Leonard, Dylan Cromer, Cameron Morrow, Josh Rosenbush, and Will Taylor.
