Carroll teams win HHC swim titles

Carroll's varsity swim teams both won first place honors in the Hoosier Heartland Conference Meet held Saturday at Clinton Central High School.

This was the second conference title in a row for the girls and the first ever for the boys.

The girls recorded 18 personal best times, while the boys recorded 15.

"It helped that we swam both teams and beat them earlier in the year," said Coach Roger Nelson. "I knew we had a chance to win again. They swam with confidence."

Final scores were: Girls - Carroll 222, Clinton Central 178, Central Catholic 108. Boys - Carroll 194, Clinton Central 180, Central Catholic 91.

The girls won five events, including two relays. Emma Cottrell took first place in the 200-yard freestyle and Stephanie Strawcutter took first place in the 500-yard freestyle. Carroll's divers, Heather Delon and Hannah Brewster, took first and second place, respectively. The girls also won the 200-yard freestyle relay (Valerie Allbaugh, Cottrell, Brewster, and Katilyn Brewster) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (Cottrell, Sarah Wilkinson, Emily Schneckloth and K. Brewster).

The boys took first place in three events. Brock Richardson won the 200-yard individual medley and Stefan Bartel won the 100-yard breaststroke. The boys also won the 400-yard freestyle relay (Richardson, Cory Ritter, AJ Butcher and Corey Johnson).
