Birthdays
Bessie Riggle will be 95 years old on Jan. 23. She was born in Carroll County, near Bringhurst, on Jan. 23, 1913, to Chester and Roxie Zook Wingard. She has three sisters, Reba Warner of Pleasant Hill, Ohio, Alicemarie Odell of Flora, and Hilda Mc- Carty, deceased. Mrs. Riggle lived in Carroll County until she was 12 years old. She attended a two-room school in first and second grade. There was just one person in the fourth grade at that time. Her family moved to Kokomo, and she finished her schooling at Kokomo High School. She married Marion David Riggle in 1936. He passed away in September 2000. They had two sons, Marion Junior, Frankfort, and Chester, deceased. She has seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. She was a member of the former Mt. Olivet Methodist Church near Cutler, where she played the piano and taught Sunday school. She worked for Wilkenson Wire Company in Bringhurst for five years and then went to work at the Bringhurst Post Office from 1961 to 1979.
She does her own cooking and housework. She loves reading, quilting, crafts, music, and travel. A celebration will be held at a later date. Her address is 215 N. Division St., Apt. 42, Flora, IN 46929. Beatrice Nipple Beatrice Nipple of Flora will celebrate her 90th birthday on Sunday. She was born Jan. 20, 1918, to Bessie and L.D. Allen. Her marriage was to Staff Sgt. Forrest Nipple, who served in World War II and was killed in action while serving his country. Mrs. Nipple has one daughter, Judy Hoffman (husband: Mike) of Flora, two granddaughters, and one great-grandson. A reception in her honor will be held immediately following the Sunday morning worship service at the Flora First Brethren Church. Hosting the reception will be her family, including granddaughters, Alice Tallackson and Sara Hoffman, and niece, Mona Groninger.
High McKinley High McKinley of Flora will be 90 years old on Jan. 17. He was born in 1918 and has lived in Flora all his life. He was married to the former Reola McCarter for 47 years. She died in March 1991. McKinley was a meat cutter for 25 years and worked for Delco in Kokomo for 14 years. He has one daughter, Pam Hensely of St. Petersburg Beach, Fla.; three grandsons, a stepson, two stepdaughters, a great-granddaughter and a great-grandson. They had a family get-together for his birthday last Sunday. |
