Carroll 7th wins tournament

Carroll 7th grade boys' basketball team won its own tournament last weekend, defeating Clinton Prairie 42-28 in the championship game.

The Cougars easily won the first game, defeating Clinton Central 49-14. Balanced scoring was the key to the win as Eric Miller and Taylor Downham each had 11 points, Jay Hodson and Ryan Spesard scored 7 and 6 points, respectively. Miller also had 8 steals, 3 assists and 5 rebounds. Downham and Brian Keith each had 3 steals and Brady Wiles handed out 4 assists. Logan Gaines and Jacob Bush each passed out 3 assists.

In the championship game, the Cougars pulled away in the fourth quarter to claim the victory. The offense was led by Miller with 20 points, including six 3-pointers. Downham chipped in with 12 points. The defense which caused the Gophers to commit numerous turnovers was spearheaded by Spesard's tremendous ball pressure. All five starters had at least 3 steals, led by Wiles with 5, Downham 4 and Spesard, Miller and Gaines with 3 each. Downham had 7 rebounds, while Wiles and Gaines each handed out 3 assists.

VS. CLINTON CENTRAL: Miller 11, Downham 11, Hodson 7, Spesard 6, Bowers 4, Keith 4, Gaines 2, Bush 2, Henderson 2.

VS. CLINTON PRAIRIE: Miller 20, Downham 12, Wiles 5, Gaines 5.

Wrestlers undefeated in folkstyle tournament

The Carroll Cougars Wrestling Club competed in its first event of the season Sunday, the Kokomo Wildkats Hoosier Youth Wrestling Association (HYWA) Folkstyle Tournament.

Three Carroll wrestlers, Brady Noonkester, Braydon Kitchel and Jake Walker, went undefeated for the day and placed first in their respective weight classes. Zach Willis placed second. Also competing were Zach Turnpaugh and Cole Liggett.
