Indiana Bar Association sponsors 'Talk to a Lawyer Today' program
Comet staff report

The Indiana State Bar Association will sponsor "Talk to a Lawyer Today," a pro bono program to provide legal assistance to the underserved on Jan. 21 as an annual tribute to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The program is an opportunity for attorneys statewide to offer free legal consultations to members of the general public who might not otherwise be able to afford the counsel of an attorney.

"As lawyers, we are the keyholders and the gatekeepers within our judicial system," said ISBA President Douglas D. Church. "We must accept a reasonable degree of the responsibility that society owes to the underserved and as lawyers, we must provide the assistance that only lawyers can."

Carroll County is part of an eight-county district that also includes Benton, White, Clinton, Montgomery, Fountain, Warren and Tippecanoe counties.

The site location for this district will be Indiana Legal Services, 639 Columbia St., Lafayette, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In addition to the district site locations, the public can utilize a statewide hotline by calling 1.800.266.2581 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (EST). Also, a Spanish hotline, 1.800.279.8772, will be made available for the first time to the public from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. (EST).

For more information on the Spanish hotline, contact Tabitha Villarrubia at 317.887.9600 or tvillarrubia@mvindianalaw.com
