Teen Film Festival is here! A movie marathon of great new releases will be shown non-stop from noon to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 3. Students grade six and up are invited to spend the day at the library and catch up on missed films. Call and save a seat.

This month's Cinema Night feature is "Sweet Land," Jan. 3 at 7 p.m. The setting is Minnesota farm country in post World War I climate of mistrust of the German people. Norwegian refreshments will be served and discussion will follow the film

Evening Book Club Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. will kick off with "The World to Come" by Dara Horn. A million-dollar painting by Marc Chagall is stolen from a museum and the unlikely thief is Ben Ziskind, a 32-year-old quiz-show writer. As Ben and his twin sister try to evade the police, memories of their deceased parents surface as they wrestle with what is true, what is fake, trust and betrayal. Several copies of the title are available.

Musician Michael Flowers will present a Cowpoke Concert Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. Authentic trail food, Western decor and a flashlight campfire will add to the fun of the evening.

Coffee Beat Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. will feature the musical talents of Joe Peters and Deep and Simple. The group brings a delightful sound with a repertoire of contemporary folk and original music. There will be plenty of hot coffee and cool music available.

It's the New Year, time to make new life goals. Let 2008 be the year you finally achieve your GED (General Educational Development.) GED tests measure the outcome of a high school education. The White County Learning Lab is offering classes in basic skills, GED preparation, math and comprehension improvement for employment, and preparation for the U.S. citizenship exam.

Students will each create their own learning plan according to their own needs, with the assistance of a licensed teacher. Study one-on-one or participate in group sessions. Participants must be 16 years or older and not enrolled in high school. Books and instruction are provided. Free GED practice tests are also provided for enrolled students. The free classes are Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 5 p.m. in the library's Richter Room. For more information on the program call 219-253-6100, or email WCLL@nwhite.k12.in.us.

Vote for your favorite book of the past year. Voting forms are available at the main desk; all ages are invited to vote. Votes can also be sent by email. In the subject heading write 2007. The library's email is floralib@flora.lib.in.us.

The first storytime of 2008 will have the theme, "Calendars." Days of the week, months of the year, changing seasons - calendars are used to help keep track of all those play dates and family gatherings. Storytime fun begins next Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 10 a.m.
