Derek Jon Liphard, 26, of Monrovia, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, in Lafayette.

Born Nov. 3, 1982, in Lafayette, he was the son of Jon G. and Shirley Irene Cree Liphard.

Formerly of Lafayette, he had lived in Monrovia since September 2007.

He was a technical advisor for NAPA Balkamp.

Mr. Liphard served in the U.S. Army Reserves from Jan. 1, 2001, to Jan. 1, 2005, with a rank of Specialist.

He was a 2001 graduate of Harrison High School and a 2004 graduate of Lincoln Tech in automotive/diesel technology. He received an associate degree in diesel and truck service management in 2005.

He was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church.

He was an avid Colts fan and enjoyed camping, hiking, mountain bike riding, boating, ATV riding, and rollerblading. He also enjoyed working in his yard. He was very proud of his new home.

Surviving are his parents, of Lafayette; one daughter, Addyson Clapp of Indianapolis; one sister, Nicole Krebs (husband: Michael) of Delphi; a nephew and niece, Corbin and Peytin Krebs of Delphi; his maternal grandmother, Helen I. (Mrs. Billy) Cree of Camden; an aunt, Janice Napier of Austin, Texas; and two uncles, Jay Dee Cree (wife: Valerie) and Ron Cree (wife: Pam), both of Camden.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Gordon and Evalyn Liphard, and his maternal grandfather, Billy D. Cree.

Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 1, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Heritage United Methodist Church, 3111N 350E, Lafayette. Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Cree Funeral Home, Camden, with Pastor Bruce Mowery of Heritage United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Camden Cemetery.
