Delphi Library dedicates John E. Walker Reading Room
John E. Walker Reading Room Family, friends and library patrons gathered Dec. 14 to dedicate the newly renovated reading area as the John E. Walker Reading Room.
The project was made possible by a gift from the children of the former Delphi Public Library Board member. Walker was first appointed to the board of trustees in September 1961 and served for ten years. He was the owner of the Carroll Telephone Company and later served as Carroll County welfare director.
Walker's children are Robin Allbaugh of Delphi, Phil Walker of Columbia City, Susannah Walker of Indianapolis, Nancy Peter-Contesse of Sultan, Wash., and the late Jane Walker Marzoli.
"It didn't take long for the library board and the Walker family to agree that a fireplace and new shelving could transform a corner of the library into a beautiful, comfortable and welcoming haven for our patrons." library director Kelly Currie said.
"Think of this room as your home away from home, a place to come in from the cold to catch up on local news, to curl up with a good book and a cup of tea or to simply sit and gather your thoughts." Currie said.
"Think of John Walker when you do so!"
