Registration continues for Leadership Carroll County
      A few openings remain for the upcoming session of Leadership Carroll County (LCC), an in-depth adult leadership development program. The 2009 class will begin Jan. 21. The curriculum will include both personal leadership development topics, as well as information about the county and current issues.

CCAA is honored for supporting state's livestock industry
      Carroll County Ag Association was among five "Beyond the Fence" award winners honored for outstanding support and promotion of Indiana's livestock industry in 2008. The awards, sponsored by the Indiana Soybean Alliance (ISA), were presented at the Indiana Livestock Forum held in Indianapolis on Dec. 18.

Flora Council holds year-end meeting
      The Flora Town Council met Monday night to transfer funds and make committee appointments. Resolution 2008-03 was adopted to reallocate appropriations within various funds of the fire department, public works, and Carroll Communities Recycling Cooperative.

Amanda Overmyer to perform in Logansport
      Former American Idol finalist Amanda Overmyer will be appearing in January in Cincinnati and Logansport. Overmyer, a graduate of Delphi Community High School, achieved international fame as a 2008 Top 12 finalist on the popular television program American Idol.

Hospice volunteer classes scheduled for January
      St. Elizabeth Regional Hospice has scheduled winter hospice volunteer training classes for new volunteers to work with hospice patients and their families. Class sessions will be on the following dates and times: • Sat., Jan. 10: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. • Mon., Jan. 12: 5 to 8 p.m. • Wed., Jan. 14: 5 to 8 p.m. • Mon., Jan. 19: 5 to 8 p.m.

Carroll grad is named acting vice chancellor at Vanderbilt University
      Jerry Fife, associate vice chancellor for business services and research finance at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tenn., will serve as the university's acting vice chancellor for administration, effective Feb. 1. Fife is the son of Paul and Peggy Fife of Bringhurst.

Institute prepares county leaders for change
      Seven representatives from Carroll County are participating in a Regional Leadership Institute sponsored by Indiana University Kokomo. The institute is funded by an Indiana Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development (WIRED) grant.

IRS reminds taxpayers to take advantage of recent tax changes
      The Internal Revenue Service reminds taxpayers as part of their year end tax planning to be aware of recent tax changes as well as recently reinstated tax deductions. "Some tax breaks and a review of your current tax situation may result in a bigger refund or less taxes to be paid come tax time," said IRS Spokesperson Jodie Reynolds.

ISP issues report
      Indiana State Police at the Lafayette Post has released statistics for November. Troopers issued 1,538 traffic citations and wrote 906 traffic warnings. Troopers also arrested 20 drunk drivers and made 75 criminal arrests. They also issued 56 truck citations for over 10,0000 pounds gross weight.

The recession arrives at the State House
      The National Bureau of Economic Research says the recession started in December 2007. In the Indiana State House, though, the recession started on Dec. 11, 2008. That afternoon the State Budget Committee heard the state's revenue forecast for the rest of fiscal 2009 and for 2010 and 2011. The news was bad.

Rossville youth earns Eagle Scout rank
      Dane Snyder completed his Eagle Board of Review and has earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He expects to hold his Eagle Court of Honor in early 2009. Snyder has been a member of Rossville's Troop 337 throughout his entire scouting career. His Eagle project included the design and completion of an annalematic sundial at Camp Cullom's Prairie Grass Observatory in 2008.

Delphi Library dedicates John E. Walker Reading Room
      Family, friends and library patrons gathered Dec. 14 to dedicate the newly renovated reading area as the John E. Walker Reading Room. The project was made possible by a gift from the children of the former Delphi Public Library Board member. Walker was first appointed to the board of trustees in September 1961 and served for ten years.
