Comet staff report

Carroll County REMC had power restored to 3,200 customers by early Sunday evening after an ice storm hit the area Thursday night and early Friday morning.

The outages, attributed to a half-inch to one inch of ice accumulated on power lines, were nearly all north of Delphi in the northern part of the service territory.

From the time the outages began, REMC personnel worked around the clock. They had restored electricity to all but 900 customers by Saturday evening and by the next evening had power restored to all members.

"There may be some members who have experienced damage to their service entrance or meter base as a result of this storm," said Carroll County REMC CEO Randy W. Price. "These members will need to contact an electrician to make the necessary repairs and coordinate a time with our office for reconnection after repairs are complete."

Price also said that the REMC had telephone problems caused by the storm that "created an unexpected problem for our members calling in outages. It took REMC personnel, the telephone company, and outside consultants several hours throughout the day on Friday to resolve the issue."

The local REMC received assistance from outside crews from South Central Indiana REMC in Martinsville, Johnson County REMC, and Clark County REMC.

Carroll County REMC is a member-owned electric utility providing electricity to 7,300 customers in parts of six counties in northern Indiana.
