Mabel E. Yater
Mabel E. Yater, 97, of Kokomo, died at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008, at Golden Living Center Sycamore village.
Born May 9, 1911, in French Lick, she was the daughter of William and Elizabeth Kellman Brown. She married Earl Yater on Aug. 16, 1930. He preceded her in death on Feb. 10, 2001.
A homemaker and farm wife, Mrs. Yater had worked some at the Value Dress Shop in Kokomo.
She was a member of Poplar Grove United Methodist Church, the Ladies Aid Society, Bunco Club, Rebecca Lodge and the Home Circle Club.
Mrs. Yater enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, fishing, mushroom hunting, and babysitting her grandkids, great-grandkids, and greatgreat grandkids.
Surviving are two daughters, Sharon Bray (husband: Eugene) of Burlington and Peggy Cresto (companion: Don Cravens) of Kokomo; grandchildren, Brad Bray (wife: Polly) of Greentown, Mike Bray (wife: Janet), Doug Bray (wife: Sandy), Jeff Powell (wife: Pam), and Lee Powell (fiancé: Steph), all of Kokomo, and Greg Powell (wife: Glenda) of Lebanon; a grandson-in-law, Mike Stanley of Young America; great-grandchildren, Jason Bray (wife: Susan), Tara Bray, Derek Bray, Ashton Bray, Joshua Nelson, Mattie Grimes, Heather Bray, Aaron Bray, Breann Stanley, Alicia Coffman, Troy Powell, Ryan Coffman, Wayne Stanley, Glen Stanley, John Rinehart, Joseph Abresch, Calib Abresch, Tiffany Bray, and Rachel Bray; seven stepgreat grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and one special niece, Judy LaCaille of Kokomo.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Phyllis Jean Yater in 1931; a granddaughter, Cindy (Powell) Stanley; three brothers; and four sisters.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Stout & Son Funeral Home, Russiaville Chapel, 200 E. Main St., Russiaville. The Rev. John Newman and Mark Slaughter will officiate. Burial will follow in Mound Cemetery, Howard County. Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
