Viaduct on Washington St., Delphi, 1914 10 YEARS AGO

Delphi Police Department received a call from Bradshaw Insurance. Upon arrival at Bradshaw's office, police found that a male caller had left a message on their business phone recorder advising them that there was a bomb in the office. The 12:52 a.m. caller stated that the bomb was set to go off in 72 hours.

A K-9 officer was contacted from Howard County to assist with checking the building. The Howard County K-9 unit is highly trained in locating explosives. By 10:48 a.m., it was determined that the building was clear and no explosives were found.

25 YEARS AGO

Open house of the new Carroll County Jail has been set for this weekend. Cost of the new structure, which has attracted law enforcement agencies throughout the state because of its construction, was just under $1.75 million. Many of them are expected to tour the facility next week. Groundbreaking for the jail was on July 19, 1982. Inmate capacity is 36 with cells provided for groups of 8, 6, 4 and 2.

50 YEARS AGO

Business is booming at Globe Valve. A steady increase in orders has made this about the busiest in the firm's history here. Departments are being put on a 12-hour day in order to keep up with the demand for their products.

Dick the Bruiser Afflis, 250-lb. former Delphi native, will be in the ring at the Indianapolis Coliseum against Yukon Eric, a 280- lb. giant this weekend.

The Willis Harter farm, located in the northwest part of Burlington township, has been sold to Charles E. Sibbitt. The 135-acre farm brought $500 an acre.

Several hundred starry eyed youngsters greeted Santa Claus Friday. The Chamber of Commerce helped distribute apples and candy to the happy boys and girls.

75 YEARS AGO

A levee will be constructed along Deer Creek from the Riley park to the mouth of the creek, according to a project approved in the Civil Works project this week.

Men have already started to clean the banks by cutting the shrubs and other brush away. As soon as this is done work will be commenced shoveling gravel out of the stream into wheelbarrows and this will be used in building the levee along the creek.

This will mean that the bottoms and other places which are usually over flowed by the creek will be protected against the waters except in a bad flood.

The original project called for a levee along the park only.

100 YEARS AGO Letters to Santa…
