Dr. Thomas R. Anderson, 54, of Delphi died unexpectedly at 6:40 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008, at Logansport Memorial Hospital.

Born June 14, 1954, in Jacksonville, Ill., he was the son of Howard and Orieda Horn Anderson. His marriage was on Dec. 30, 1978, in Burrows to Lucinda A. "Cindy" Been, who survives.

Dr. Anderson was a 1972 graduate of a high school in Clinton, Iowa. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from Northwestern University in 1978, his medical degree from the University of Iowa in 1982, and completed his residency in 1985 in family practice at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.

He started at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette in the emergency room, then joined Arnett Health working in Lafayette and Delphi.

Dr. Anderson began family practice in Delphi in 1985, and then opened his own office in Camden in 1990, operating it to the present).

He was a one-of-a-kind physician delivering babies at home and caring for his patients at his home. He not only was their doctor, but he bonded with them and had lasting friendships that went far beyond doctor-patient care.

Dr. Anderson was a member of the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Family Practitioners.

He was a member of the Hickory Grove Church and enjoyed singing in the church choir.

Dr. Anderson enjoyed making pottery, vegetable gardening, bee keeping, cooking and woodworking.

He dearly loved his family and the time he spent with them.

Also surviving are two daughters, Martha Long (husband: Dan) of West Lafayette and Lily A. Anderson, at home; two sons, Ben Anderson (wife: Amanda) of Erie, Pa., and Sam H. Anderson-Been, at home; his mother, Orieda Anderson and a sister, Judith Franing (husband: Richard), both of Moline, Ill.; two brothers, John Anderson (wife: Maryann) of Tulsa, Okla., and Ed Anderson (wife: Elizabeth) of Concord, Ill.; and in-laws, Herbert Been (wife: Mildred) of Delphi.

Preceding him in death was his father.

Services were held Nov. 30 at First Assembly of God Church in Pittsburg. Burial followed at Brown Church Cemetery in Rockfield.

Abbott Funeral Home, Delphi, was in charge of arrangements.
