Alice Elizabeth Harrell
Alice Elizabeth Harrell, 90, of Burlington, joined her Heavenly Father on Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at 1:10 a.m.
Alice was born on Dec. 11, 1917, the youngest of four children to Charles and Vella (Landis) Hendrix.
Following her graduation from Burlington High School, she attended North Manchester College and Ball State University.
She was a homemaker.
Alice married James D. Harrell on Dec. 18, 1938. He died April 21, 1986. They raised three sons, Tom, John, and Fred.
Tom married Dorothy (Lehane) and they have three children, Howard Harrell and wife Dr. Linda, Lisa Klein and husband Marc, and Christopher Harrell and wife Becky. John married Susan (McCullough) and they have three children, Jonathon Harrell and wife Jane, Emily Henderzahs and husband Dr. Kevin, and Jeremy Harrell and wife Nicole. Fred married Angela (Carollo) and they have two children, Andrea Gilkison and husband Dr. Andrew, and Katie Hancock.
Alice also has 16 greatgrandchildren.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, infant son, infant granddaughter, half brother Zed Hendrix, and two half sisters, Edith Mitchell, and Esther Wagoner.
Alice was a life-long member of the Burlington Brethren Church where she served as song leader and choir director for many years.
As hobbies, she enjoyed the relaxation of knitting and the thrill of finding an unusual thimble.
Alice belonged to the Burlington Eastern Star, the Ridgeway Community Club, and was a charter member of the Burlington Evening Musicale, Altrusa of Kokomo, Questers International of Sun City, Ariz,, and the Phoenix Thimble Club.
Services were held Monday at Stout & Son Funeral Home, Russiaville Chapel, with Dr. Peter Roussakis officiating. Burial followed in the South Union Cemetery, Howard County.
