Comprehensive Land Use Plan Steering Committee member Miriam Robeson provided updates about the Hoosier Heartland Highway Overlay District and zoning ordinances at the Nov. 25 meeting of the Carroll County Area Plan Commission.

Robeson said the proposed overlay ordinance would protect land within 1,000 feet of either side of the highway. Additionally it would regulate bill boards, new construction, over construction, and encroachment. She said the committee expects to present the completed ordinance to the APC at the next monthly meeting.

Robeson reported the steering committee began work on a full zoning ordinance. The process is expected to take up to eight months. APC attorney Cynthia Harmon will work in conjunction with the committee.

Harmon requested APC members to provide input about zoning issues in the county and how a solution was improvised.
