Comet staff report

Christmas Food Baskets, Inc. is a community project coordinated by area churches and generously supported by civic groups, school children, businesses and individuals to assist those in need at Christmas.

In 2007 over 200 families in Carroll County were given a week's worth of food, necessities and gifts for children. Donations and gifts helped some families through another week while for others it meant families celebrated Christmas.

Anyone who knows of person( s) or family who could benefit from a basket should contact Kathy LaFond at (765) 564-2516 with names, address, phone number and ages of children starting Nov. 17 through Dec. 8.

Donations of non-perishable food items or paper products may be dropped off at the National Guard Armory Dec. 16 to 18, beginning at 9 a.m.

Gifts of hats, gloves, new toys (include batteries), puzzles, books or games can be donated at Honan Hall Dec. 9 to 11, starting at 9 a.m.

Monetary gifts may be sent to Virginia Thompson, 3696N. SR25, Delphi, IN 46923. Make checks payable to "Christmas Baskets."

Donations are also accepted at Delphi United Methodist Church, Delphi Catholic Church and the Delphi Presbyterian Church during office hours starting Nov. 17. Check at other local churches to see if donations are accepted. Call before donating.

Volunteers are needed to sort and fill baskets at Honan Hall and the armory during drop-off dates and times.

To volunteer, obtain a list of items needed, or to donate large quantities of any one item contact chairman Dwaine Ward at (765) 268- 2302 or (765) 564-8306.
