      MID-LAND MEALS is sponsoring a Community Volunteer Day to Help Seniors Dec. 6 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at their location in Lafayette. Volunteers are needed to help package and box 3,000 meals for homebound seniors. Lunch will be provided. Anyone who can volunteer should call Ben Turbin at (800) 446-7189.

Hoosier Home Cookin'
      I don't know about you, but for me, Christmas 2008 is a busy and crazy holiday season. Maybe a tree will go up (maybe not). Maybe, Christmas cards will be mailed (you can be assured they won't be hand-addressed with calligraphy this time around). And, maybe, I'll bake just a few things. But with my hectic schedule, there's not a lot of time for painstaking recipes.

      Traveling FLU SHOTS will be available Saturday from the Carroll County Health Department at locations in Camden, Flora and Burlington. Shots will be given from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Camden Community Building; from 12 noon to 2 p.m. in the Community Senior Citizen Building in Flora, and from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Town Hall in Burlington.

Hospital Notes
      Wayne Fisher of Camden has been transferred from Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis to Lafayette Home Hospital where he is in rehab on the fourth floor. He is improving from a fall from a tree stand on Nov. 15. He sustained six broken ribs, several cracked vertebra, a broken shoulder blade and bruised lungs and underwent surgery before the transfer.

Burlington
      Town Council will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the town hall. Kiwanis Club will meet Saturday morning at 7:30 for breakfast and meeting at the fire station. College care packages will be packed Sunday at the Church of Christ. A carry-in dinner will be held, along with the annual meeting.

      Camden Woman's Literary Club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the United Methodist Church basement for a cookie exchange. Those attending are asked to bring two dozen cookies to taste and exchange. Jimpsie Doyel will be storyteller and Mary Anna Selvidge, song leader. Hostesses will be Sharon Ashby and Helen Yeager.

      Faith Lutheran Church will have a congregational meeting Sunday after worship. A vote for new council members will be taken. All members of the church are urged to attend. The women of Faith (WELCA) will meet at the church at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. All women of the church are invited to attend.

      Delphi Public A Ceramic Artshop taught by Lafayette artist Mary Firestone will be offered Jan. 31 at the Boy Scout Cabin in Riley Park. Materials are free but there will be a fee for kiln firing. Call to reserve a spot in the class.

      Cook family Phyllis Cook entertained 28 family members and friends for Thanksgiving. They were especially thankful for her grandson, Brandon Cook, who recently returned from duty in Iraq. The son of Jeff and Lisa Cook of Delphi, he shared pictures and video from his tour there.

Environmentally-friendly holiday reminders
      The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) is encouraging Hoosiers to reduce, reuse and purchase more recycled-content products as part of their holiday plans. "We're encouraging Hoosiers to consider protecting the environment while saving money as they engage in their holiday activities," said IDEM Commissioner Thomas Easterly.
