James Newton "Pete" Lones, 79, of Chandler, Ariz., died Nov. 17, 2008, in Chandler.

Born Feb.

16, 1929, in

Rader, Tenn., he was the son of Ivan Clay and Maxie Lee Burns Lones. His marriage was on May 14, 1955, in Flora, to Ruth Rader, who survives.

Mr. Lones served in the U.S. Army from 1947 to 1948 and the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1953.

He was a power plant operator for General Motors (Allison) in Speedway from 1954 to 1973 and at the Salt River Project in Tempe, Ariz.

Mr. Lones was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chandler.

Also surviving are a daughter, Jeannie Lones-Shultz (husband: Marty) of Gilbert, Ariz.; two sisters, Ginger Hudson of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Brenda Joy Walker of Nashville, Tenn.; four granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were Nov. 22 in Delphi. Burial followed at Musselman Cemetery in Camden.
