Flora Lions Club
Mary Jo Redmon, site director of the Flora Senior Center, was guest speaker at the Nov. 18 dinner-meeting of the Flora Lions Club. She spoke on activities geared toward Flora's senior citizens that the Center provides. She emphasized that noon meals can be purchased at the Center Monday through Friday and that the general public is welcome to come dine and participate in various activities offered there. Meal prices are discounted for those over age 60. She also stated that there is a need for volunteer drivers as well as donations towards the purchase of a newer van. The club participated in Saturday's Christmas Parade. Candy was handed out to the children and Leo the Lion was also on hand to roar at the crowd.
Nominations are being accepted for the annual Pete Award. This recognition, in honor of DeVere "Pete" Hoffman is awarded to an individual who has outstandingly volunteered toward the betterment of the Flora community. This year's recipient will be recognized at the Flora Lions' Christmas Dinner to be held Dec. 2 at the Wabash and Erie Canal Interpretive Center in Delphi.
Camden Woman's Literary Club
Camden Woman's Literary Club met Nov. 18 at the Camden Library.
Judy Berkshire presented a program on the Slow Food movement that promotes sustainably grown, environmentally respectful food.
Several members purchased children's books for the library in honor of National Children's Book Week, Nov. 17-22.
Judi Peters reminded members the club continues to sell candies and nuts for Christmas gifts and baking. The next meeting will be Dec. 19 at the Camden United Methodist Church.
