The first Presidential Proclamation of a day of Thanksgiving in the United States was made by George Washington in 1789. The day was set aside for prayers and thanks for the new Constitution. Several states continued the practice, each designating its own day.
Abraham Lincoln was the first President to appoint an official Thanksgiving Day, to be celebrated each year on the last Thursday of November. Lincoln issued the proclamation on October 3, 1863. Since that time the nation has joined on one day, in saying its prayers of Thanksgiving, and in remembrance of the small band of religious fugitives who landed at Plymouth Rock.

…One of the interesting accounts was about the Delphi man who was mowing his weeds in his back yard. Becoming warm, he removed his vest and hung it on a post. A calf ate the vest and of course, consumed the gold watch that was in the vest pocket. The calf grew and was kept until seven years later, it was butchered. Inside, lodged between the lungs the watch was found undamaged. In fact, the expansion and contraction of the lungs as the calf breathed, kept the watch wound, so that it only lost 4 minutes time in the seven years.

Our yell leaders, Helen Ball, Lois Reef and Billy Cook have been conducting daily pep sessions at noon in the gymnasium. To date we have seven cases of strained adenoids but nothing very serious. The response has been fine.
Due to lack of funds we have been unable to supply the boys with needed equipment for the basketball team. A drive was put on this past week and local business men, patrons and alumni were solicited by a committee of boys. The result has been very gratifying.

Next Thursday evening at 8 o'clock the local basket ball and the Flora High School teams will clash in the second battle for the city honors of the great game. Arrangements are being made to take care of the large crowd and we are safe in predicting that the game will be worth going many miles to see. The prices for this game will be worth going many miles to see. The prices for this game have been made exceedingly low in order to have a crowded house and further introduce the game to the local community. The prices will be, gentlemen 15 cents; ladies, 10 cents; children under twelve, 10 cents.
