Charles "Harold" Shanks, 80, of Delphi died at 9:40 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center in Delphi, where he had been a resident since July.

Born Dec. 18, 1927, in Camden, he was the son of the late Floyd E. and Martha S. Shephard Shanks. graduated from Camden High School in 1946. His marriage was Dec. 3, 1950, in Colburn to Opal L. Gingrich, who preceded him in death June 19, 2000.

He served as an Army Medic during World War II, from May 1946 to June 1947.

Mr. Shanks was a real estate agent for Bonham Real Estate. He and his wife were the former owners of Shanks Realty.

He was retired from farming after many years.

He was a member of the St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Delphi, the VFW and the American Legion in Delphi.

Mr. Shanks enjoyed woodworking, tractor pulling and restoring old tractors.

Surviving are a daughter, Amanda Robinson (husband: Steve), and a son, Mike Shanks, both of Delphi; six grandchildren, Chad, Holly and Corey Draper, Samantha and Kara Laxson and Jamie Shanks; and great-grandchildren Lily and Emma Draper, Zeke Reed, and Jordan Shanks.

Preceding him in death were two brothers, Richard and twin brother Gerald, and a sister, Helen McVay.

Services will be Nov. 20 at 10 a.m. at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Mike Crawford will officiate. Burial will follow at Paint Creek Cemetery in Camden.

Visitation will be today, Wednesday, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Davidson Funeral Home in Delphi and one hour prior to the funeral service.
