Camden program honors veterans

A display of posters made by Delphi Elementary School first, second and third grade students greeted attendees.
Following the presentation of the colors, Henry Wilburn, Commander of the Camden American Legion, gave the welcome. The Star Spangled Banner was sung, followed by a musical tribute to all branches of service on a power point presentation assembled by Peggy M. King. Malachi Jaggers sang a patriotic tribute to veterans.
Each veteran attending was recognized, including their name, branch of service, time served, and place(s) where they served.
Jason Cree spoke about his experiences when he was deployed to Afghanistan for a year. He explained the conditions that the native people have to live under in that country.
A tribute to Ed Freeman, a helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War, was read by Marilyn Wilburn. Freeman recently died in Idaho.
Shelly Britton read poems written by local Vietnam veterans. Audience members remembered family and friends, veterans who are deceased but not forgotten.
A drawing for three awards for the children's posters was held. Winners were: Allison Shoemaker, 2nd grade; Megan Grimes, 3rd grade; Andrew Schoeb, 2/3 grade.
The program concluded with the retiring of the colors, a salute by gunfire, and prayer by master of ceremonies Dan Gottschalk.
