Comet staff report

Flora's Christmas parade will be Nov. 22 with the theme "Season of Giving."

The parade will begin at 12:30 p.m., with line-up at 11:30 at Jackson-Lee- Pearson's northeast office building at the corner of Willow and Clark streets. Registration is also there. Pre-registration is encouraged. Call Danielle Hicks, 967-3292.

Awards will be given for Best Float, Best Depiction of Theme, Best Motorized, Most Entertaining, and Best Walking Group.

The parade will proceed on Clark Street to Center Street, to Main, and will end at the park.

This year, in keeping with the theme, participants and spectators are asked to bring items for the Food Pantry. Especially needed are boxed food, canned fruit, and staples (flour, sugar). The items can be dropped off at the parade registration area, at the former Dime Store building downtown, or at the park at the end of the parade.

Sponsor of the Parade, Flora Community Club, invites those who have served or are serving in Iraq or Afghanistan to ride in the parade. Those interested should contact Theresa Brown, 967-3022, by Friday.

Santa's visits

Santa Claus will be in the parade and will visit with children at a new location this year. He will receive visitors inside the Pizza King on Center Street for two hours following the parade on Saturday. He will be at the same location on Saturdays, Nov. 29, Dec. 6, Dec. 13, and Dec. 20 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Sunday, Dec. 21, from 5 to 8 p.m. Flora Psi Iota Xi is hosting his visits. As an added bonus this year, Flora Community Club is offering Santa's little visitors a free sign-up to win a hand made wooden toy box.

Gift & Craft Show

The Community Club is also sponsoring a Carroll County Christmas Gift & Craft Show Saturday in the former Dime Store building from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
