Comet staff report

Indiana Homeland Security has placed a 55 foot live-fire training trailer at The Andersons parking lot in Delphi.

Flora Firefighter Mike Cottrell is in charge of the multicounty training sessions for firefighters from Carroll, Cass and White counties. Sessions started Monday and continue through Friday from 6 to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The trailer uses propane to simulate residential and commercial fires and allows firefighters to train with real fire. The trailer is computerized and remote controlled.

Instructors, trained by Homeland Security in Lafayette, control the fire and smoke as firefighters enter the trailer. Firefighters respond to commercial stove, basement and bed simulation fires.
