      MARCH OF DIMES announces that November is Pre-Maturity Awareness Month. Each year in the United States one in eight babies are born pre-maturely, 11,753 in Indiana alone. EH Sewing Day set
      Extension Homemakers' Sewing Day will be Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the 4-H Building. Other community members are invited. Sewing day projects will include: 350 gift bags for the Toy Store, tied fleece pillows for teenagers for the Toy Store, and tote bags for Riley/Ronald McDonald House to be used with elementary school and teenage youth.

Mary J. Stokes
      Mary Jane Stokes, 99, formerly of Brookston, died Nov. 2, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center in Delphi. Born Aug. 29, 1909, in Carroll County, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Della E. Pugh Irelan. Her marriage was in 1932 in Delphi to Elmer Stokes, who died in 1964.

Burlington
      Plans are under way for a Burlington Christmas Walk on Nov. 22. Shops will be open from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and Santa is expected to arrive at 5 p.m. Children are encouraged to participate in a coloring contest. Prizes will be awarded on the 22nd at 6:30 p.m. Coloring pages may be picked up at various locations throughout Burlington and the surrounding area.

      Deer Creek Presbyterian Church is having a book club for adults and older teens. Discussion of the book, "The Color of Water by James McBride," will be at 7 p.m. on Nov. 24. The group will meet in the church library. Deer Creek Community Center is hosting a Longenberger Basket Bingo party on Friday at 6:30 p.m. The party is to support the community center.

Hayrides, hot dogs, and more
      Delphi United Methodist Church had a Fall Carnival, with games, hot dogs and treats, Oct. 31 at Canal Park. The Canal Association provided hayrides and trolley rides, and the Delphi Chamber of Commerce organized a pumpkin patch, with prizes. Around 500 children attended the event throughout the evening.

Library
      Burlington Burlington Community Library will offer a six-week Toddler Story Time on Thursdays, from 10-10:30 a.m. Dates for the story times are Nov. 6-20 and Dec. 4-18. Each week will have a special theme. Thanksgiving and Christmas will also be highlighted. Children will enjoy stories, music and art projects. Contact Karen at 765- 566-3166 with any questions.

      Scholarship Workshop 4-H'ers in grades 10 and above are invited to attend a Scholarship Workshop on Nov. 5 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the 4-H Building. They will learn how to turn lifeskills learned from 4-H projects into scholarship dollars. During the past 13 years, 26 4-H'ers from Carroll County have won a total of $29,500.
