IDEM informed Top Sow members of the approval of a permit to build a hog farrowing cooperative that includes a group of local farmers and Excel Co-op, Inc.

The new permit has been approved following changes the Top Sow operation has made to a proposed confined feeding operation. The original design met opposition in the form of protests by neighboring residents.

The new permit approved by IDEM is for a smaller operation of 1200 sows that will implement the deep pit design rather than lagoons.

….The $20, 200-pound pumpkin almost didn't make it home in her husband's new pickup when she had to slam on the brakes. The pumpkin rolled forward, damaging the front of the bed, back of the cab, and back window. The monstrous pumpkin turned out to be a little more costly, like $2000 more. The Peterses have a sense of humor and the carved pumpkin, complete with battle scars, decorates their front lawn for Halloween.

Dr. Edward L. Langston, Carroll County Republican Central Committee chairman, has named Richard L. Cornell as the party's nominee for mayor of the city of Delphi following last week's tragic death of Dan Clawson, mayor nominee.

Santa Claus reminded Delphi Postmaster Harry Hammond that the first letter received through the Delphi post office may be hard to fill.

The request was from a third grader asking for a live tiger. The letter writer promised good care and that he would have cooperation of his family. Santa thinks this request may be a little difficult to grant, however.

Added proof that this area ranks high in agricultural activities, is the fact that two of the nine boys in Indiana receiving the American Farmer degree, at the Future Farmer convention at Kansas City this week, live nearby. They are: Kenneth Orem of Burlington; and Marcus Crum, of Rossville.

Hall's Foodliner, Delphi IGA weekly specials listed as follows: Chicken .29 lb.; 1 gal. milk .69; stalk of celery .10; potatoes 50 lb. .89; bread- 2 loaves for .37.

For the third time during the last five weeks, the Metzger Lumber company was entered and robbed Sunday night. The first time the thieves took $21, the second time they took a smaller amount of money, and Sunday night they stole the gas and oil and battery from the company's truck. Officials believe that the robberies are the work of local talent.

"No pork barrel for Carroll county" seems to be the case this time, because the pork from the pigs and hogs recently killed that is being distributed at the present time in Indiana will go only to those counties who are using federal relief at the present time. It is being distributed through the re-employment agencies.

A report has been circulated to the effect that Harry Reed, candidate for county clerk has been carrying water on both shoulders, in regard to saloon versus church affairs and he desires it corrected. Any person in Delphi or elsewhere that knows Mr. Reed would be candid enough to tell the truth of the case when the facts are he never visits the saloon and is not a drinking man. This report we are sure was not circulated by his opponent but in justice to all concerned the facts of the case are published.

Miss Ruth Hagenbook at her home in Rossville, gave a Hallowe'en mask party. The house was elaborately decorated with jack-o'-lanterns, pumpkin faces, candles, autumn leaves and chrysanthemums. After a short time the masks were removed and a varied program of games were played, after which refreshments were served. A delightful time was had by all present.
