Jubilee Fellowship shuts down Sunday service to serve the community
Jubilee Fellowship, with an average attendance of 85, put its faith into action by canceling regular Sunday service Oct. 19 to practice "kindness with a purpose" throughout the community. Seventy-five volunteers from Jubilee collected food for the local Food Pantry, washed cars for free, and picked up trash in the park, along SR 18 and Main Street. They also painted the fire escapes at Carroll Manor and took flowers to the residents there, as well as to St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Delphi, began rebuilding a porch for a local family, and did carpentry work and laid flooring for a single mom.
"I was blown away by how our congregation rallied to support this special day of service to the community," said Pastor Scott Gamel. "Our people saw firsthand that serving others is something simple, and something anyone can do."
Jubilee's Sunday of Service also kicked off a new community service initiative called "Second Saturday."
"Each month on the second Saturday, we will send teams into the community to serve and help people in any way we can," said Pastor Gamel. "We also want to serve with our community, and so our Second Saturday projects are open to anyone who wants to participate and give something back to the community."
Local helping agencies and other organizations that have needs that Second Saturday volunteers could help with are urged to contact Pastor Gamel.
