For the second week in a row, it came down to the Cougar defense. They were successful, holding off the North White Vikings to preserve a 21-19 Cougar victory.

The Cougars got on the scoreboard when quarterback Riley Eller connected with Drew Yoder on a 14-yard pass. Skylar Bagwell's kick was good for the extra point. (7-0 CHS).

North White's Dustin Hileman connected with Jordan Long for a 13-yard TD pass to tie the game at 7-7 all. In that drive the Cougar defense was out of sync. The Viking receivers were running routes, crisscrossing patterns and Hileman's receivers were wide open for easy catches.

In the third quarter Eller found Bagwell for a 62-yard TD pass. Bagwell kicked the PAT kick, 14-7 CHS.

Again in the third quarter the Cougars mounted another drive. Eller found Primmer Zook for a big pass play. The Cougars had the ball at the Viking 9-yard line. Ben Bennington scored on a 1-yard run and Bagwell's kick was good, 21-7 CHS.

The Vikings tightened the gap when they scored in the third quarter on a 4-yard TD pass from Hileman to Ruemler. The PAT kick was blocked, 21-13 CHS.

With the Cougars up 21-13, North White scored on a oneyard TD run by Hileman with about one minute left in the game. The Vikings, down by two, tried a 2-point conversion but their pass play fell to the ground incomplete.

The Cougar defense turned in another solid performance. Senior running back Bennington was the main workhorse, rushing for 119 yards on 22 carries to lead the 7-2 Cougars, plus a one yard TD run in the 3rd quarter. Eller had nine completions on 15 attempts for 191 yards and 2 TDs and one interception.

Cougar Coach Steve Keown stated last week the Cougars need to play four quarters and in this game they did.

On defense Thomas Gillam was in on a lot of tackles, as well as Jonathan Bush, Randy Hoffman, Bennington, Eller, Carson Spesard, Adam Spesard and others.

Friday night the Cougars will begin Sectional play when they travel to Royal Center to take on the Pioneer Panthers, who are ranked #10 in Class A and have a 7-2 record. The Panthers have some big players, like Bryan Kiser, who rushed against West Central for 251 yards.
