Doris Sheagley
Doris Sheagley, 84, of Cutler, died at 3:07 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, at Lafayette Home Hospital. She had been a patient there for the past week.
Born Nov. 27, 1923, in Mitchell County, N.C., she was the daughter of Will and Bertha Freeman Ledford. She graduated from Bowman High School in Bakersville, N.C. Her marriage was on Sept. 9, 1943, in Osborne, Ohio, to Frank Sheagley, Jr., who preceded her in death on Aug. 2, 1997.
Mrs. Sheagley was retired from Carroll Consolidated School Corporation, Flora, where she worked as a cook for 20 years.
She attended Cutler Presbyterian Church.
She enjoyed quilting, was an avid reader, and liked to help others.
Surviving are two sons, Ray L. Sheagley (wife: Ann) of Flora and Kirk W. Sheagley of Lafayette; a daughter, Rita Palmer (husband: Neil) of Palm City, Fla.; two sisters, Lucille Buchanan and Darlene Burleson, both of Bakersville, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and ten greatgrandchildren.
Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Cutler Presbyterian Church. Lay Pastors Ann Bingaman and Jeff Brown will officiate. Burial will follow at Ball Hill Cemetery near Cutler. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Baker Funeral Home, Flora, and one hour to the service at the church.
