Delphi Christian Church to host milestone event
      On Sunday morning, Oct. 19, the Delphi Christian Church will celebrate a milestone event in its history. The church will host a centennial celebration of the church building. On April 15, 1880, the church officially began.

Area youth invited to outdoor concert in Monticello
      Praise Fest, an outdoor concert for youth of all ages, will be held Sunday evening in the Our Lady of the Lakes Parish parking lot, Monticello, from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Four bands - DJ Miller, Awake, God Save Bob and Hands Held High - will perform on stage with a special spiritual message between the sets.

Flora will see increased water rates beginning in '09
      Ordinance 2008-5 setting water rates for 2009 through 2012 passed on first reading at Monday night's Flora Town Council meeting. The total increase will be 27.61% with a 9.31% increase in '09 and a 6.1% increase the next three years (2010-2012).

Legions to host candidate debates
      Camden and Delphi American Legion posts will host Carroll County candidate debates Oct. 21, from 7 to 9 p.m. The event will be held at the Camden Community Building. Dr. Thomas Brodar will be the moderator. Questions will be posed by a threeperson panel.

Absentee voting begins
      Absentee voting is now under way. All Indiana registered voters are eligible to vote absentee in-person at the Carroll County Clerk's office during regular business hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed from 12 noon to 1 p.m. for lunch), and Wednesday 8 a.m. to 12 noon.

Final draft of Comprehensive Plan presented to APC
      Comprehensive planning steering committee representative Miriam Robeson recently presented the final draft of the Carroll County Comprehensive Development Plan to the area plan commission. Robeson called the plan "a guide or foundation for zoning, a good tool.

State assistance program funded for winter heating season
      Indiana will have a record $106 million available through state's share of the Energy Assistance Program (EAP) to help meet the winter fuel needs of low-income Hoosiers, said Governor Mitch Daniels. That's more than double the amount of funding that the state received last year.

Habitat for Humanity and area veterans to build house
      Lafayette Habitat for Humanity and area veteran groups will build a house together in the fall of 2009 to honor veterans of the Greater Lafayette community for their service to this country. The campaign to raise the revenue and volunteers needed for the Habitat for Humanities Veteran Build is underway. Dennis and Patti Frist are chairpersons of the build committee.

Moonlight Madness winners
      Winners are announced in three contests held at Flora Community Club's Moonlight Madness event held Saturday evening on the downtown streets. There were two winners in the Scarecrow Contest. Business winner was Eikenberry Fine Furniture, with a figure on stuffed-animal horse.
