Buck Creek church to hold celebration
Buck Creek United Methodist Church will host a centenary celebration of its church building with special services Oct. 12. The message will be given by District Superintendent Kate Walker. Many past pastors will be in attendance, along with current pastor Dwight L. Monical. Longstanding members and the congregation's oldest member will be honored. Following services a cake and punch reception will be held. The church was organized in 1832 and met in a log building built by a farmer named Henry Stair. In 1863, the building was moved into Buck Creek, known then as Transitville, and became the Methodist Episcopal Church. In 1908 the old building was beyond repair, and a new one was built in its place, using parts of the old church in the process. Money was raised for stained glass windows, with many families and organizations in the community paying for the windows. Some of the 13 names on the windows can be traced to descendents who still attend Buck Creek United Methodist today, a hundred years later. Photo provided
