Charles Albert Widner

Charles Albert Widner died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, at Hernando Pasco Hospice, Dade City, Fla., after a short illness.

Born Nov. 7, 193,2 in Delphi, Indiana, he was the son of James and Alena Venita Gallimore Widner. His marriage was to Patricia Ann Haas on May 29, 1950, who preceded him in death in 2003.

Mr. Widner served in the United States Air Force in the 3664th Training Squadron of the 3660th Basic Military Training Group at Geneva, New York, for four years through August 1951.

He was a long-time member of the Delphi American Legion Post.

He attended Delphi schools and was employed as a machinist at Globe Valve Corporation in Delphi and at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, from where he retired.

He was a life-long resident of Delphi, Indiana, and retired with his wife to Zephyrhills, Fla., in 1994.

Mr. Widner enjoyed reading and was a great debater of politics and history. He also enjoyed collecting and studying historical firearms.

He was also a boxer when he was young and loved to dance.

Surviving are two daughters Marlyn Widner Roland (husband: Barry) of San Angelo, Texas, and Juna Widner Brown (husband: Orlander) of Pinellas Park, Fla.; four grandsons, Rick Barry Roland of San Antonio, Texas, 1st Sgt. Randall Eugene Roland of Fort Hood, Texas, Christopher Dunlap of Temple, Texas, and Brandon Dunlap; and two great-grandchildren, Naomi Brook Roland and Cody Michael Roland, both of San Antonio. Many nieces and nephews and friends also will grieve his loss.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Jeffrey Dunlap of Plymouth, Indiana, and three siblings, Juanita Louise Widner Jervis Goeden, Jake Widner, and Harry E. Widner.
