Helen M. Leftwich
Helen M. Maples Leftwich, 86, of Delphi, died at 4:55 p.m., Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Lafayette. She had been in failing health and a patient there since Sept. 21.
Born July 28, 1922, in Cleveland, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Carroll and Edna Johnson Maples. Her marriage was in the summer of 1959 in Bristol, Tenn., to Glenn Leftwich, who preceded her in death Aug. 31, 1980.
Mrs. Leftwich attended school in Cleveland and was a member of the Delphi United Methodist Church.
She worked in the restaurant industry for over 20 years and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Leftwich moved from Cleveland to Delphi in 2000 to live with her daughter. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, sharing her recipes, church activities and singing.
Surviving are two daughters, Pat Vincent (husband: Terrence "Vince") of Lafayette and Sharon Herron (husband: Frank) of Delphi; a son, Paul DeVries (wife: Lois) of Lafayette; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was a great-granddaughter, Megan.
Visitation is Thursday, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Abbott Funeral Home in Delphi.
Services will be Oct. 3 at 11 a.m. at the Delphi United Methodist Church. The Rev. Todd Ladd will officiate. Burial will follow at Masonic Cemetery in Delphi.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or the Delphi United Methodist Church building fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
