Delphi Christmas Basket Project hopes for early donations
      With the current state of our economy, the organizers of the Delphi Christmas Basket Project are concerned it is going to be tougher for people to donate this year. On the other hand, says project participant Nancy Cripe, more people will probably be needing help. This is why they would like the community to consider giving donations earlier this year.

Disaster loans available from SBA
      The U.S. Small Business Administration has announced that federal economic injury disaster loans are available to small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, and most private, non-profit organizations of all sizes located in Indiana as a result of hail that occurred June 21-22.

Delphi Lions Club sponsors Peace Poster Contest
      Lions Clubs around the world sponsor the Lions International Peace Poster Contest in local schools and youth groups yearly. This contest encourages young people to artistically express their visions of peace. Delphi Lions Club invites students ages 11, 12 and 13 to enter this year. Three winners will be selected from the Delphi area.

Kindergartner rewarded for her good deed
      For those who read about the kindergarten students who sold popcorn to raise funds for the rebuilding of the torched playground boat in Delphi, this is the rest of the story: One of the girls who sold the popcorn at Camden Early Childhood Center went a step further and brought in her savings for the cause. Cynthia Rossi had been saving all summer for an American Girl doll.

House bill not a bail-out... according to Donnelly
      Congressman Joe Donnelly, in a tele-conference call Tuesday morning with news media across the state, said the financial rescue package voted down by members of the U.S. House of Representatives Monday was not a "bail-out" for mortgage and insurance companies. He said the package will prevent the loss of jobs and retirement savings on Main St., U.S.A.

INDOT lifts restrictions on SR 29
      The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has completed the small structure replacement project on State Road 29 over McCloskey Ditch just south of Carroll County Road 350N. Construction started in the spring. S.R.

SFLECC hosts Tippecanoe River Watershed Environmental meeting
      Fourteen state and local environmental organizations came together Sept. 17 in Monticello to catalog their concerns and discuss collaboration on ways to conserve, manage, enhance and protect the Tippecanoe River Watershed. The watershed covers 14 Indiana counties and includes tributary streams, and Lakes Shafer and Freeman.

Will participate in NAILE
      Ariel Randle of Delphi has entered one head of beef cattle in the Junior Steer division of the 35th annual North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE). The NAILE is recognized as the world's largest purebred livestock show with more than 22,000 entries and nearly $700,000 in prizes and awards.

New head wants to be transparent
      The new man in charge at Carroll County REMC formally begins the job Nov. 1, but has already begun meeting with staff in the Delphi office. Although the time is fast approaching for him to formally lead the Carroll County group, he does not yet know what he will be paid for the work.
