Autumn is the season of changing colors in nature. What a perfect time to take the art class, Learning Color, offered by local artist Brenda Daly.

This class will meet three nights, and one piece will be completed in that time. Students will be using paint and brushes on canvas board. Paint in the primary colors only will be used, focusing on color complements, mixing color, and how light changes color.

Learning Color will be Monday evenings, Oct. 6, 13, and 20, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the library's Richter Program Room. Register at the main desk or call the library, 967-3912. There is a small fee for the course, due on the first day of class.

Thousands of libraries and bookstores nationwide will celebrate the freedom to read during Banned Books Week, celebrated through Saturday. They will support the occasion with displays of books that have been banned or threatened throughout history.

Observed since 1982, the annual event reminds Americans not to take this precious freedom for granted.

During Banned Books Week the library will have on display books that have been challenged or banned over the years. Patrons are invited to choose to check out any of these books, reminding themselves that they have the freedom to read the selected material of their choice.

The theme for the next storytime

will be Community Helpers. Preschool storytime is Tuesday morning at 10 a.m.
