Ryan Van Matre, DC, MS(c), has been contracted by the Professional Golf Ass ociation (PGA) to provide chirop ractic services to PGA Tour golfers.

Van Matre was hired to work several events on the PGA Tour and Champions Tour. He recently worked at the Buick Open in Grand Blanc, Mich., and the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, N.C.

The PGA provides two physical therapists, one chiropractor and one athletic trainer at each of its venues. Van Matre said that he was tapped to work on the PGA Tour because of his sports medicine experience with professional athletes.

"My patients usually roll their eyes when I say where I'm going for the weekend," he said. "Then I tell them that I begin treating golfers at 5:30 in the morning and usually don't finish until 6:30 or 7 in the evening. Most injuries are sprains/strains, tendonitis and low back and neck pain. The players generally know what works best for them such as manipulation, Active Release Techniques or stretching and corrective exercises."

Van Matre is director of Indy Spine and Rehab, P.C. with offices in Delphi and Carmel.

"Everyone asks me if my golf game has improved.," added Van Matre. "I just say that I'm not quitting my day job."
