It was a short trip for the Delphi Tri-Township Fire Department on a recent afternoon when they were summoned to Shaffer's Marathon in Delphi, located directly across the street from the firehouse. A selfservice customer at the station had exited a gas pump lane without removing the hose from the vehicle. The pump was wrenched from the ground, resulting in an estimated $1,000 damage. Station owners Garry and Greg Shaffer managed to extinguish the fire before the department's arrival and before the fire spread.

This is a story about four people. Their names were Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.

Then Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody's job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it!

It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done!

Slugs in parking meters have always been a problem, but since the carnival here last week, a new complication has arisen. Motorists, determined to have free parking, are using cardboard slug. The slugs are quite familiar to bingo players for they are the cardboard discs used in playing that game. When a motorist can't even afford a metal slug, we wonder how he gets gasoline to drive.

A meat department and market has been installed in Smith's grocery in this city. The new business will handle all kinds of meats and anything in the line can be obtained there. A Quillen brothers electric refrigerator has been installed with a Kelvinator refrigerating unit. This is the most modern equipment on the market today. Kenneth Liebert has been hired to operate the new market.

A total of 49 persons have filed applications with County Auditor J.L. Whiteman for old age pensions under the new pension law which provides that payments will begin next January. All persons who are 70 years of age or older who have no means of support and no children to provide for them are eligible for pensions under the law.

The oldest applicant thus far is William Riggle of Deer Creek township who is 85 years old.

Flora is booming! At the present time there is not an empty residence in our beautiful and thriving little city and at least one dozen families would move here in case they could buy or rent property.

But it is not to be had at this time for any price and how long this condition will continue is hard to tell. The many improvements that are being made on the streets, the erecting of many new buildings and much to her work here is the cause of the properity. Right now is the best time possible for people to erect buildings on their lots to rent, as they will have no trouble in securing good and reliable occupants.

Property values in Flora are rapidly increasing and people who take advantage right now by purchasing lots and build residence property can not go wrong, as it is bound t increase in value.
