Flora Lions Club

Charlie Short, District 25-C Governor of the Indiana Lions was the guest speaker at the Sept. 16 dinner-meeting of the Flora Lions Club. He gave a "state of the district" address and commended Flora Lions on their continued dedication to Lionism. He also inducted Norma Gilbert into the Flora club.

Updates were also given as to the Flora Lions' participation at the Deer Creek Park fund raising event that was held there Sept. 12. Ice cream was sold and all profits were donated to the cause.

Preparations are also underway for the club's participation in the upcoming Moonlight Madness that will be held in downtown Flora on Oct. 4.

The annual "Kid's Ride," a motorcycle tour, is scheduled for the first weekend in October. Proceeds from the event will be divided between the Neo-natal Care Unit of Lafayette Home Hospital and Riley Hospital for Children, Indianapolis. All participants will pay their own expenses incurred from the trip as well as making a donation to the charity. Camden Woman's Literary Club

Camden Woman's Literary Club met Sept. 16 at the Camden Library for the first meeting of the 2008-2009 program year. The following officers are: Judie Peters, president; Lynette Martin, vice president; Kathy Shuler, secretary; Pat Casserly, treasurer and Jimpsie Doyel, historian.

The next meeting will be a back yard picnic Oct. 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Peggy Lach-Stone.

Wednesday Forum

Members of Wednesday Forum met at Solomon's Grill for their September meeting. Hazel Mullin led a discussion of "Ordeal by Hunger" by George R. Stewart about the Donner Party. The Donner Party constitutes one of the most amazing stories of the American West.
