Services for R. Blaine Harter, 83, of Russiaville, were held Saturday morning at Stout & Son Funeral Home, Russiaville Chapel. Pastor David Reed officiated. Burial followed at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Flora, with military rites by the Kokomo Military Rites Team.

He died Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at his home.

Born Aug. 6, 1925, in Bringhurst, he was the son of Russell M. and Gladys (Quinn) Harter.

He graduated from Flora High School in 1943 and from Michigan State University with a Bachelor's Degree.

Mr. Harter was an active farmer for many years.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was involved in the invasion at Normandy. He received a Purple Heart for his service.

Surviving are one sister, Betty Garrison of Indianapolis (husband: Tom); and nephews and niece, Brad Garrison (wife: Kris), Scott Garrison (wife: Lissa), Lisa Garrison, Robert Payne, John H. Payne II (wife: Sue), Richard Payne, Linda Collins (husband: Mike), and Mike Harter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Joe Harter, and a sister, Frances Harter Payne.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Veteran Hospital in Indianapolis.
