Hurricane Ike blows ill wind for appraisal fair
Ol' Glory Bret Quinn of Camden brought in an American Flag with 48 stars. He said he wanted to learn how much it was worth and learn about its history. Dell Bartlett and his son, Colby, evaluated the flag to determine it was made between 1930 and 1950. Fair organizer and former Teddy's Emporium owner Cindy Knoth said the event was three to four months in the planning. Volunteer appraisers, both local and regional, spent the afternoon talking to the approximate 100 brave individuals who tightly wrapped their unusual and/or antique items securely before dashing through the rain and wind from the street to the rotunda.
"No one wanted their goodies to get rained on," Knoth said.
Historical museum curator Phyllis Moore said there was no specific financial goal for the event and thanked the 16 to 19 volunteers who helped to plan and implement the event.
