Comet staff report

Flora's Moonlight Madness event, set for Oct. 4, will include three contests.

New this year will be the "Cutest Moonbeam Baby" contest. Two continuing events will be the chili cook-off and scarecrow contest.

The "Cutest Moonbeam Baby" contest is for three-yearolds and younger.

To enter, parents (or others) are to decorate a can with the child's picture and name. The entry should be dropped off at Eikenberry Furniture by noon on Sat., Sept. 20.

People can vote for the cutest baby by dropping money into the container. The cans will be on display at Flora Pizza King from Sept. 20-27 and at Stephan's IGA from Sept. 28 to Oct. 3. On Moonlight Madness day, the cans will be in the former Dime Store building.

The winner will be announced at Moonlight Madness at 7:30 p.m. at the downtown stage area. Prizes will be awarded.

For more information, contact Lisa Eikenberry, 967-3600.

The chili cook-off will again have two categories - mild and hot. There is no entry fee, and prizes will be given.

Those planning to enter should bring their crock pots of chili to the former Dime Store between 5 and 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 4. Judging will be at 6:30 p.m. The chili will then be sold.

There will be two categories in this year's scarecrow contest - business entries and individual entries. Imagination is the key to see who can have the best-decorated scarecrow. There is no entry fee, and prizes will be awarded.

The scarecrows will be on display at the former Dime Store building during Moonlight Madness. Contact Theresa Brown at The Flower Shoppe for the deadline for scarecrow entry.

Hours for Moonlight Madness are 5 to 9 p.m. The event also includes a car show, entertainment, food, and night shopping in downtown Flora.

Moonlight Madness is sponsored by the Flora Community Club and its KICK team. All proceeds from the event go to local scholarships and other community services.
