Canal water level lowered
      The canal water level has been lowered in Delphi in preparation for the construction of a storage warehouse. "The stone quarry will keep about 10 to 15 percent of the flow going so that holes along the bottom will stay full for fish to survive," said Dan Mc- Cain, Canal Association president.

'Cutest Baby' added to Moonlight Madness
      Flora's Moonlight Madness event, set for Oct. 4, will include three contests. New this year will be the "Cutest Moonbeam Baby" contest. Two continuing events will be the chili cook-off and scarecrow contest. The "Cutest Moonbeam Baby" contest is for three-yearolds and younger.

      " Dietary Guidelines for Americans," released in 2005, emphasizes the importance of eating five portions of fruit and vegetables a day. Mid-Land Meals, Inc., is a not-for-profit organization that helps senior citizens toward meeting this goal everyday.

CDC Resources sets the bar high, with ISO 9000 compliance
      CDC Resources, a social service agency serving children and adults with developmental disabilities since 1953, has officially been recognized as an ISO 9000 registered organization. The news came in late July after more than a year of work and preparation for a May audit to review CDC's quality policies and procedures.

Burlington to host annual festival this weekend
      Council president Stan Moore urged residents to help out with the upcoming Burlington Fall Festival. "If people call and need your help, please respond," he said at last week's council meeting. "The Festival is a jewel in our crown and we want Burlington to shine during the week of the festival," he added.

K-9 dog dies
      Annie, one of Carroll County's K-9 dogs, was put down on Aug. 30 due to ill health. She was nine years old. Annie assisted area police with drug searches and investigations. Her owner and handler was Marion Riggle of Cutler.

Flora Rotary supports Mexico Initiative
      Flora Rotary Club has given $2,100 to a Rotary district project called the Mexico Initiative. Claude Johnson of the Crawfordsville Rotary Club and chairman of the project, visited the Flora Rotary Club last Thursday. He praised the generous donation from the relatively small club.

Flu season is nearly upon us
      Flu vaccinations for the 2008-2009 flu season are now available. If a flu pandemic similar to the one in 1918 hit today, is it estimated about 62 million people would likely die. The annual flu season begins in October and can continue until May.

      A delegation from the First Brethren Church of Burlington has returned from a heritage trip to Europe. They joined others in celebrating the 300th anniversary of the Brethren church tradition by traveling to the place of its European roots.
