The Pittsburg Church of the Brethren and the Flora Church of the Brethren recently combined their services and Sunday school classes.
Services are being held at the Pittsburg Church in August, October and December. Services are scheduled at the Flora church in September and November.
The merger of the churches has brought with it a new church name, Living Faith.
With the encouragement of Pastor Ray Herriman, members of the "Master Club" at Camden First Baptist Church sought a way of getting involved in their community. The offer of painting all of the curbs in town was readily accepted by town officials and after completing their project, they swept up.
25 YEARS AGO
At 9:30 a.m. Sunday morning, the Wabash Cannonball went through Delphi. The locomotive is 16 feet tall, requires 35 tons of coal and 20,000 gallons of water according to a Lafayette track repairman. Built in 1950 in Roanoke, Va., at a cost of $251,544, the locomotive ran passenger service from Norfolk to Cincinnati for eight years and hauled freight another year. It was in a museum until it was restored two years ago. The locomotive had come to Delphi from Lafayette on its way to Bellevue, Ohio. People are still lured by the romance and glory of the "Cannonball", the smell of the coal and the way it was in the past.
50 YEARS AGO
The county commissioners hold the public welfare in high regard. Action was taken this week to install a water cooler on the second floor of the court house to provide thirsty passers-by with an icy drink. The possibility of converting to hot coffee come fall, has been considered, but was abandoned due to obvious engineering difficulties.
75 YEARS AGO
John Roach will open a restaurant and beer parlor the latter part of this week in the room formerly occupied by the Holmes battery service, just west of the post office. He is cleaning up the room at the present time and repainting it inside to put it into first class shape. He is planning to open it as soon as he has this painting and other work finished.
If every person in Carroll county signs a wheat adjustment contract, about $60,000 will be taken in by the farmers of the county from the government. 3,000 acres will be taken out of production and a total of 230,726 less bushels will be raised. The three year average shows about 20,000 acres of wheat raised.
100 YEARS AGO
A mammoth load of corn hauled by Arthur Blue to the Miller & Walker Elevator in Flora contained 196 1/3 bushels, and is said to be the largest load of corn ever hauled by one team in the United States.
The Camden schools will open September 14th.
The young ladies of the Delphi Christian church have started a novel undertaking in the way of securing a car load of old newspapers and magazines to be sold to furniture manufacturers for wrapping paper. The proceeds of the enterprise will be applied to the purchase of a pipe organ for the new church which is almost ready for occupancy.
Camden has the only saloon in Carroll county outside of Delphi, and their license expires in October when it is said a remonstrance will be filed against any applicant.
