Robert V. Meekins
Robert V. Meekins, 86, of Delphi, died at 10:47 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center in Delphi. He had been in ill health the past two years.
Born July 20, 1922, in Delphos, Ohio, he was the son of the late Arthur and Frances Schille Meekins. He attended high school in Lafayette. His marriage was on Dec. 24, 1941, in Lafayette, to Imogene L. "Jean" Tague Meekins, who survives him.
Mr. Meekins was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II stationed in the South Pacific.
He worked at Fairfield Manufacturing in Lafayette from Feb. 4, 1941, until his retirement June 25, 1982.
Mr. Meekins attended St. Boniface Catholic Church in Lafayette and was a member of the Lafayette American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing.
Surviving are two daughters, Rebecca Shaw (husband: James) of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Kay Priest (husband: Michael) of Delphi; a sister, Juanita Leck of Lafayette; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were a brother and sister.
Visitation is today, Wednesday, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Abbott Funeral Home in Delphi.
Services will be held Sept. 11 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Father Peter Vanderkolk will officiate. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Lafayette with Delphi American Legion and Delphi VFW military rites.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
