Faith Based Book Club will gather Sept. 18 at 9 a.m. to discuss "The Shack" by William P. Young. The reader must be prepared to either love the story or be theologically annoyed. While some have enthusiastic praise for it, there are others who cry out "theologically dangerous." The book should stir a debate which is both necessary and fruitful, and provide a good discussion. Multiple copies of the title will be available soon.

Cinema Night will feature "The Illusionist," with Edward Norton, on Sept. 18. at 7 p.m. Other stars include Paul Giamatti and Jessica Biel. Bavarian desserts and coffee will be served along with lively discussion. Join others for an evening of artful cinema.

Coffee Beat returns Sept. 20 with Southern Oblivion. More than just guys strumming guitars, accomplished musicians Rick and Dennis Alexander, add a whole new dimension to the band's guitar-based sound. Alternating between driving bass and sweet mandolin, intricate solos, and soulful, hauntingly beautiful harmonica, this is an evening you won't want to miss. Music starts at 7 p.m. and continues until 8:30. Coffee and music are free, desserts are available for a small fee.

September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when the Flora Library and all libraries across the country remind parents that a library card is the most important school supply of all.

Libraries play an important role in the education and development of children. Studies show that children who are read to in the home and who use the library perform better in school and are more likely to continue to use the library as a source of lifetime learning. Help your child succeed by obtaining a library card and using it on a regular basis. For more information on library cards call the library, 967-3912.

The September selection for the library's book discussion group is David Baldacci's, "Wish You Well." Extra copies of the book are available for checkout. The group meets the third Wednesday of each month at the Flora Senior Center. Everyone is welcome.

The theme for the next storytime will be baths. Your favorite animals and pets love to take a bath, too. Bring your child into the library for clean and "messy" tales. Preschool storytime is Tuesday morning at 10 a.m.

Dial-A-Story is available 24 hours a day. The current story playing is "Five Peas in the Pod." On Friday the story changes to "The Little Hero." Call Dial-a-Story at 967-3814.
