Irvin Enterprises opens furniture refinishing business in Burrows
A new business will open in Carroll County with a grand opening celebration from Friday through Monday.
Irvin Enterprises LLC is a full-service furniture repair and restoration business located at 8660 E. County Road 68 N. in Burrows.
Partners in the business are Herschel and Alicia Irvin, Nicholas L. Clark and Alice V. Christian.
Clark said that the idea for the business came several months ago when he had a number of pieces of furniture refinished by the Irvins.
"I had several family antiques that were in really bad shape," said Clark. "The Irvins took all the old finish off, re-glued all of the loose joints, replaced missing veneer, found reproduction hardware and missing castors. They put on appropriate finishes and when I received the antiques back, they were in like new condition. Now instead of my children wanting to throw them away, they are drawing lots to see who will get them some day."
Ms. Christian contacted the Irvins to remodel her kitchen over the past winter.
"They painted my old cabinets and put new hardware on the doors, installed granite counter tops and new flooring," said Christian. "They had to remodel and resize several of the cabinets. I was very pleased with their work. I also had them restore some antique furniture."
Irvin Enterprises is located in a refurbished and professional workshop in Burrows. There are carpentry areas for reworking furniture and for stripping off the old furniture finishes. There will be both hand and machine sanding. Irvin Enterprises also has a state-ofthe art finishing room for re-applying varnishes, oils and shellac.
Herschel Irvin has 23 years of custom carpentry, cabinetry and furniture restoration experience and Alicia has five years of experience. Both have worked for several area furniture refinishing and restoration businesses.
Hours for the grand opening are 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Monday. Sunday hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Tours of the workshop will be given during those hours and refreshments will be served.
Carroll County Chamber of Commerce will be present at 10 a.m. on Friday to participate in ribbon-cutting activities.
