Public invited to Class of '56 memorial organ recital
The 52-year reunion of the Flora High School Class of 1956 will include a memorial organ recital by class member Madonna Jordan Brownlee of Atlanta, Ga.
The recital will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Kokomo on Wednesday, Aug. 27, at 1 p.m. It is open to the public.
The concert will be dedicated to the memory of classmates Carolyn Marley Bordner, Mary Ann Cripe, Buddy Jackson, Bill Shaffer, Bob Ryan, and Richard Murphy, as well as other loved ones.
Mrs. Brownlee began her career at the First Brethren Church in Flora. She has been an organist at some of Florida's and Georgia's largest churches, including First United Methodist and Christ United Methodist, both in St. Petersburg, Fla., and Church By the Sea in Bal Harbour, Fla. She currently presides at the console of a four manual, 60 rank Moller organ at First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Atlanta.
A graduate of Florida State University, Mrs. Brownlee studied at Union Theological Seminary School of Sacred Music in New York City. She further studied with nationally known organ professors including Vernon de Tar and Diane Bish.
As a recitalist, Mrs. Brownlee has performed on the 117 rank, five manual Ruffati organ at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., in Europe, and in many U.S. cities.
Most recently, she has given concerts at Virginia's historic Bruton Parish Church, where she also accompanied the Williamsburg Chorale.
