Wednesday Forum
The Wednesday Forum met recently at the home of Jan Hathway. A program about Madam C. J. Walker was given by Hazel Mullin.
Walker was born 1867 in Delta, La., to sharecroppers who were former slaves. She was inspired to start a business with a remedy to regrow hair for African American women. In 1910 she moved her business to Indianapolis. Upon her death in 1919, she was known to be the wealthiest and first African American millionaire. The Madam Walker Theater, in Indianapolis was named for her.
Classy Classics EH
Thirteen members of the Classy Classics Extension Homemakers Club met at Lois Patty's cottage on Lake Shafer.
A luncheon was held at the Railroad Museum Restaurant outside Monon.
During the business meeting, program books were completed, and devotions were given by Pat Rodgers. Refreshments were served by the hostess.
The August meeting was held at the home of Mary Anna Scott with 12 members attending.
For devotions, Cheryl Milburn read a poem entitled "Praying Hands" by Helen Steiner Rice.
President Diana Alter reported on the meals the group served at the county fair. She also gave a lesson on colorectal cancer, using material from Clarian Health Center.
During the social hour, refreshments were served by Joyce Orem.
Cleaning supplies were collected for Carroll Manor.
The September meeting will be held at the home of Kathy Northcutt with Debbie Smith as co-hostess.
Double Dozen EH
Ten members of Double Dozen Extension Homemakers Club enjoyed their annual "Day Out" recently with a visit to The Apple Dumpling Inn near Peru, as arranged by president Lona Yeakley.
Following lunch, they toured the grounds and browsed the shops.
The next meeting will be Sept. 2 with Helen Forgey as hostess.
