Judy Berkshire recently led the library group discussion of the Carroll County on the Same Page book, "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" by Barbara Kingsolver. She is a garden enthusiast herself and related some of her own experiences.
Berkshire also made a batch of zucchini chocolate chip cookies - a recipe from the book - and shared them with the group.
Copies of the book are available at the library.

Faith Based Book Club will meet Aug. 21 at 9 a.m. to discuss Joel Rosenberg's "The Ezekiel Option." Rosenberg is the best selling author of two books, "The Last Jihad" and "The Last Days." Written before 9-11, his first book described a terrorist kamikaze mission in the U.S. and the onset of a war in Iraq. "The Ezekiel Option" portrays a nuclear alliance between Russia and Iran. Multiple copies of the book are available at the library.
Cinema Night is a monthly program where selected sleeper, independent and foreign films are shown with refreshments. Discussion follows. This month's featured film is "Lars and the Real Girl" and will be shown Aug. 21 at 7 p.m.
In Stitches will meet Aug. 26 at 6:30 p.m. Fiber arts crafters gather once a month to stitch, knit, quilt and even spin as they share ideas and laughs. Please plan on joining with your work in progress and a snack for the group.

The library's new book discussion group meets every third Wednesday of the month at the Flora Senior Center. All ages are welcome to participate. The group will next discuss, "My Sister, My Love: the intimate story of Skyler Rampike," by Joyce Carol Oates.
Oates revisits the JonBenet Ramsay murder, replacing the famous family with the Rampikes. In "My Sister, My Love," the life and death of a little girl is the center of a novel that is at once a satire of marriage and parenting, an unnerving dissection of our fascination with tabloid-style celebrity, a stylistic tour de force and a compelling mystery.
Melissa Bishop will review the book selection. The group meets Wednesday, Aug. 20, at 10 a.m.
The theme for next storytime is, "Olympics." Kids will learn about the greatest sports competition in the world, the Olympics, with stories, finger plays, and a little competition of our own. (Everyone's a winner at the library.) Storytime is Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m.
